Chengong, a satellite city located just south of Kunming, was envisioned as a major economic and university center, with construction starting in 2003. The city boasted skyscrapers, luxury villas, huge residential complexes, and modern amenities such as a stadium, kindergartens, and shopping malls. However, despite the presence of the nearby market of Luosiwan, the city failed to attract the expected influx of residents and businesses. As a result, within a few years, Chengong became one of the largest ghost towns in China, with its once-thriving structures now decaying and abandoned, presenting a stark and desolate landscape.
