Tony Leung Chiu-Wai

Tony Leung Chiu-wai, born on 27 June 1962, is a renowned actor and C-pop artist from Hong Kong. He clinched the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love. Additionally, Leung has received the Hong Kong Film Award seven times and the Golden Horse Film Awards thrice. He’s teamed up with Wong Kar Wai on seven films, three of which—Happy Together (1997), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004)—were shortlisted for competition at the Cannes Film Festival. He has also appeared in three films that won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival: A City of Sadness (1989), Cyclo (1995), and Lust, Caution (2007), the last of which was helmed by the Oscar-winning director Ang Lee. Leung’s roles also include the Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated film, Hero. As highlighted in the 2002 publication “East Asian Film Stars”, Tony Leung stands out as “one of the most accomplished and celebrated actors from Hong Kong of his era, boasting a varied and impressive filmography.” In 2023, he won the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement at Venice Film Festival.
