Revealed: Audience Favorites and Most Watched Titles at ShortShorts Film Festival & Asia 2023, Alongside Finalists for the Pioneering FiNANCiE WEB3 Award & Creators’ Award.

The critically acclaimed shorts will grace the silver screen again during the Autumn Screening event

SHIBUYA, Japan, July 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The 25th edition of “Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA)“, widely recognized as Asia’s premier international short film festival and an officially approved Academy Awards event, concluded its online screenings on July 10th. They proclaimed the winners of the “Audience Awards” — chosen through audience voting from the nominees in the Live Action Competitions — and the “Most Viewed Award”, granted to the film that registered the most views from the shorts featured online.

Moreover, the festival also released the list of contenders for the innovative “FiNANCiE WEB3 Award”, an accolade for films harnessing WEB3 technology, determined by the token-issuing members of FiNANCiE, a funding platform supporting creative minds. The “Creators’ Award”, which is chosen based on the input of creators from around the world, was also part of this announcement.

Garnering significant audience support at the Tokyo and online screenings, the coveted “Audience Awards” were handed to a variety of films. The winner from the International category was “Sparrow” from Poland, while Korea’s “Nowhere Else” dominated the Asia International category. The Japan category saw the triumph of “Tiger’s Cave”, the directorial debut of Kyogen actor Mansai Nomura, featuring Masataka Kubota in the lead role of a lonely contemporary youth. The narrative draws inspiration from William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and Atsushi Nakajima’s “Sangetsu-ki”. The emotional human drama “Strange”, directed by Ken Ochiai with Towa Araki and drag queen Dorian Lollobrigida playing the main characters, secured the “Most Viewed Award”.

Meanwhile, the pathbreaking FiNANCiE WEB3 Award, which is jointly facilitated by FiNANCiE and SSFF & ASIA and focuses on crowdfunding using blockchain technology, listed the German documentary “. Ulf Nawrot – 40,000 Post-Its” and the Taiwanese comedy “Dark9 Community” among its finalists. The Creators’ Award, assessed by both local and international directors who contributed to this year’s festival, spotlighted the Hong Kong animation “Everywhere” and the Swedish documentary “LIVE TILL I DIE” as its top contenders.

The successful short films of this year will return to the big screen at the Short Shorts Fall Film Festival’s Screening in Autumn event, scheduled for October. They will share the spotlight with films from each category, including the prestigious Grand Prix = George Lucas Award-winning short film.
