Jade enjoys married life, but after her husband accepts a promotion and becomes the president of his company, he focuses almost exclusively on his work, neglecting her needs. To revive their marriage, Jade insists on taking a trip with her husband. However their relationship takes a turn for the worse when she meets a man on their trip…and asks him to kill her husband.
For most of the running time it’s business as usual as gamblers Andy Lau and Alan Tam pull scams when they’re not exposing them for casinos and incurring the wrath of a family of Japanese gangsters before Tam marries rich girl Idy Chan and Lau, as is the way with all movie hustlers, gets a busted hand, a drink problem and Rosamund Chan (so not entirely a bad shuffle there).
Set some time after The Heroic Trio (1993) the city has been devastated by a nuclear attack. An evil deformed villain controls the city’s scarce water supply, exerting influence over both a popular leader and a militarist colonel. The trio of Chat the Thief catcher, Ching, and Wonder Woman (along with her young daughter) have to avert a military takeover and find clean headwaters to save the city.
The Thai government hires a group of Chinese mercenaries to capture a powerful drug lord from the Golden Triangle. The mercenaries manage to capture the drug lord, but soon find themselves pursued by his forces, and the forces of a bitter Thai officer. The King Boxer shares a name with two early 70’s martial arts films, but shares a lot more with some later vintage films of the genre. Most obvious is Fong Sai Yuk, from which large chunks of plot are lifted, but the not-particularly-observant will recognise elements from Fist Of Legend and Tai Chi Master and Sammo’s Prodigal Son.
