1935, Shanghai. Xiao Hong, a lovely young lady, works as a teahouse singer. She falls in love with her next-door neighbor, Xiao Chen, a handsome young musician. Their windows face each other, and Xiao Chen frequently entertains Xiao Hong through the window with magic tricks. When Xiao Hong finds that her supervisor intends to sell her to a wealthy teahouse client who has developed feelings for her, Xiao Chen and his wacky group of pals do everything they can to prevent it.
