An independent film called “Trashy Boy” about a struggling teenage rapper has gained cult status among Chinese millennials. The film follows Zhang Haichao as he makes a valiant effort to become a hip-hop celebrity in his homeland of Gansu Province in northwest China, but fails terribly.
