What you should know about the history of technology

The journey of science and technology is one of the most impressive and striking chronicles that resulted in conceiving the new realities of human life, labor, and communication. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution through the digital revolution of the 21st century, each technological progress has no equivocal attribution to the history of humanity. In this article, we will look at some critical landmarks that impacted the world of technology as they are realized today.

The 18th century is the starting point for the history of technology since it was the Industrial Revolution period when many changes took place due to the improvements in industry, portability, and production.

The emergence of the steam engine by James Watt in 1769 was the starting point of an era of the quiet revolution in which the fabric of the economic and social life of the human being was transformed.

The machine procession, which was once by human hands, was the turning point for manufacturing, and it provided the feasibility of unprecedented economic development using higher efficiency.

The digit age of the 20th century came up with its icons, the key being the invention of the first electronic computer by John Atanasoff & Clifford Berry in 1942. Following the invention of the Internet in the 1960s would be the radical change of global communications and data transfer, begetting the information age we inhabit today. The Internet, which brings the world together virtually in one package, influences how we work, communicate, receive, or send information, making a society currently interconnected and dependent on electronic devices.

In the past few decades, we have been surprised to experience amazing technological breakthroughs that tremendously alter how we approach the world around us and the distant parts of the Universe. More specifically, AI, machine learning, and biotech are all known as leading elements of this technology-based reformation era. These innovations are moving the limits of what might be real, beckoning a new world of open doors while bringing diverse fields to the forefront.

AI is the hottest area where almost every sphere of life is subject to captivation. From the smart assistants on our phone screens to the self-driving cars on our streets, we can see that AI is bringing progress in technology and our actual reality. The human brain can be flexible in its ability to learn from data and perform tasks, so it can drive technology to such an extent that it can change an entire industry, for example, healthcare and logistics, up to customer service and manufacturing.

Machine learning, one of two main branches of artificial intelligence, is today empowering extensive progress in cognition, natural language processing, and decision automation. Now we can see how artificial intelligence acts as a driving force behind the creation of innovative applications, like personalized recommendations, computer-assisted diagnosis systems and safe and efficient autonomous driving.

On the contrary, though, biotechnology is undergoing a more and more significant increase in contribution to medical, agricultural, and food industry reform. In other words, bioengineering encompasses gene therapy and gene edits, crops based on biotechnology, and lab-grown meat, to name but a few of its objects. Biotechnology has become an instrument to make progress in these three key directions: fighting diseases, promoting food production, and reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.

In the future, we look at where quantum computing, augmented reality, and emerging renewable technologies may further propel technological development and enrich the world even more. Quantum computing holds out the prospect of solving difficult problems with super fast speed and thus could suddenly change areas of engineering like cryptography, molecular simulation, and materials design.

The invention of technology brings many new challenges, namely, technological dependence and information security. Moreover, we have to care about the fact that we have to take full advantage of technology for the benefit of the community and promote the sustainable and equal development of humans.

The history of technology remains a spectacular example of human creative capability and the never-ending effort to achieve technological perfection as it was in the past. From the formation of the Industrial Revolution to the present threshold of Artificial Intelligence and far beyond, each technological advancement shows us the significant capability of innovating human leverage.
