Asian Hall of Fame Induction Celebrates Many Firsts

On November 12, 2022, the Alex Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the 18th Asian Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for the first time to benefit season programming and the new Women in Tech & Entertainment Guild.

Presenters were Moet Hennessy, Wells Fargo, Lily Liu, and the Robert Chinn Foundation. Special visitors were Terrence Howard and Mira Pak, Walther and Shirley Wang, Game of Thrones writer Gursimran Sandhu, Illumination Entertainment Claudia Mielnek, and Inductee Dr. Linda Liau. Becky Benaroya, 99, of Seattle, attended in honor of Founder Emeritus Karen Wong.

Hiroshima, the first-ever band inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame, was introduced by GRAMMY engineer Noel Lee. Master Chef Helene An, her daughters Elizabeth An and Catherine An, and their grandmother Diana An were inducted as the first three-generation and mother-daughter honorees.

Ren Hanami, an inductee, introduced 6-time GRAMMY Award-winning performer Daniel Ho, who performed alongside Tia Carrere. Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian welcomed Robby Krieger of The Doors, who performed alongside Artist Ambassador Ed Roth. Jiaoying Summers was given by Arcadia Mayor Paul Cheng.

Andy Henry, Executive Producer of Disney Studios, introduced Momo Wang, Creative Director of Illumination Animation. Panda Express Founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng were given by Dr. David Li Lee, Chair Emeritus of the Caltech Board of Trustees, and Inductee Sonita Lontoh. Wells Fargo Senior Vice President Judith Goldkrand awarded real estate pioneers Omar and Christine Lee.

Master of Ceremonies Frank Buckley of KTLA 5 introduced NYX founder Toni Ko and KKR Co-CEO Joseph Bae and his wife Janice Lee. In the Celebration of Life segment, Jamaican Chinese bassist Phil Chen and Japanese American statesman Norm Mineta were honored.

Former CHAYA Executive Chef Shigefumi Tachibe and his restaurant Osawa prepared specialty appetizers to honor the new Consul General of Japan in LA, Kenko Sone. Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Grayse, Cartier, Valentino, and Dior donated presents to the International Press Lounge.

Founder Robert Chinn Foundation matches up to $500,000 of sponsorships and donations. Gifts over $1,000 are recognized in perpetuity as Founders of the Season, Women in Tech & Entertainment Guild or Health Science Guild. A GoFundMe page has been set up for people who wish to donate.
