The Filogic 880 and Filogic 380 Wi-Fi 7 platform solutions from MediaTek were launched today for high-bandwidth applications in the operator, retail, corporate, and consumer electronics industries. This pair of chips will be among the first Wi-Fi 7 solutions available, allowing device makers to deploy cutting-edge devices with the most up-to-date connection technologies.
Filogic 880 is a full platform that combines a Wi-Fi 7 access point with a new powerful host processor technology to deliver the finest router and gateway solution for operators, retailers, and enterprises. It has a scalable design that supports up to pentaband 4×4 at 36Gbps. All client devices, including smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops, set-top boxes, and OTT streaming devices, will have Wi-Fi 7 access thanks to the Filogic 380. Because MediaTek also provides the relevant platform solutions, the chip’s dual concurrent 2×2 capabilities will be optimized “out-of-the-box” for these devices. This streamlines the design process, improves performance, and reduces time to market.
According to Alan Hsu, MediaTek’s corporate vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity business: “Our wireless connectivity solutions are designed to deliver the fastest performance using the most advanced technologies, and represent MediaTek’s commitment to driving Wi-Fi 7 adoption in a large number of new markets. With Filogic 880 and Filogic 380, our customers can deliver fast, reliable, and always-on connected experiences to meet the industry’s growing connectivity demands.”
To enable optimal Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and packet processing speed, MediaTek’s Filogic 880 combines a Wi-Fi 7 access point with a fast application processor and network processing unit (NPU). The chip has a diverse set of interfaces and peripherals, making it simple to adapt designs for a variety of end products and applications.
A 6nm Wi-Fi 7 access point solution is included in the Filogic 880 platform.
The Filogic 880 platform has a strong host processor with a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 application processor and a sophisticated NPU, in addition to Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. Key characteristics include:
The Filogic 380 is a single-chip, 6nm Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 combination solution that provides best-in-class connectivity.
It works with MediaTek SoCs in smartphones, TVs, laptops, set-top boxes, OTT streaming devices, and many more consumer electronics products.
The Filogic 380 has the following features:
Since its start, MediaTek has been involved in the creation of the Wi-Fi 7 standard, and the firm was one of the first to implement the technology. Wi-Fi 7 will be the backbone of home, workplace, and industrial networks, providing seamless connectivity for everything from multi-player AR/VR apps to cloud gaming, 4K calls to 8K streaming and beyond.
At Computex 2022, which takes place in Taipei, Taiwan from May 24 to 27, MediaTek will showcase its Filogic Wi-Fi 7 platform solutions for both access point and client ecosystems.
