SLINGSHOT 2022 offers Singapore immersion program to 50 global startups

Last Updated on 2022/04/26

Through Singapore, leading global startups are connected to collaborative opportunities. The sixth edition of SLINGSHOT is now accepting applications. For the sixth year, SLINGSHOT, powered by Startup SG, is back.

The competition has launched a new immersion program for the top 50 global entrepreneurs to explore development prospects in Singapore, as well as an exclusive partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides access to cloud expertise, mentorship, and a worldwide network of prospective clients. The SLINGSHOT grand finals will be placed during the Singapore Week of Innovation & Technology (SWITCH) from October 25 to 28, 2022, and will be organized by Enterprise Singapore (Enterprise SG). The companies will also visit research, innovation, and business facilities for site tours and lab crawl.

For the first time, SLINGSHOT is teaming with AWS on its AWS Startup Ramp initiative to help the top 50 finalists. AWS Startup Ramp is a program for early-stage companies working on solutions in health, digital governance, smart cities, agriculture, and space technology, with a focus on assisting entrepreneurs as they create, launch, and scale their businesses. AWS Startup Ramp will connect SLINGSHOT’s top finalists with AWS’s worldwide network of partners and other startup members to foster deeper cooperation, as well as give training and AWS credits to address obstacles and drive public sector innovation.

This year’s Challenge Domains[3] of I Manufacturing, Trade & Connectivity, ii) Health & Biomedical, iii) Environment, Energy & Green Technologies, iv) Transformative Digital Technologies, and v) Consumer Media, Goods & Services are all open to deep tech businesses (refer to Annex for more details). The call for submissions is already available and will conclude on July 24, 2022.

  • Grand winner grant prize of over US$130,000
  • First runner-up grant prize of over US$100,000
  • Second runner-up grant prize of over US$66,000
  • Over US$33,000 grant prize each for top ten domain winners

The top three SLINGSHOT winners will get up to 18 months of rent-free space in the JTC LaunchPad @ one-north or LaunchPad @ Jurong Innovation District, thanks to a collaboration with JTC, Singapore’s leading agency championing sustainable industrial growth. Incubators, accelerators, and venture capitalists all have offices in these LaunchPads.

Ms Cindy Ngiam, Director of SWITCH at Enterprise Singapore, stated: “Since its inception in 2017, SLINGSHOT has received over 15,000 applications from countries such as Canada, China, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Following SLINGSHOT, our top 40 SLINGSHOT winners have raised almost $400 million in investments.

Over 400 judges and mentors from the innovation field have been linked to businesses through SLINGSHOT. Our collaborations with renowned industry players such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) will give great chances for entrepreneurs to obtain additional assistance and expand across the region from Singapore.”

Mr Samuel Harris, Public Sector Startup Lead, Asia Pacific and Japan at AWS, said of the engagement with Enterprise Singapore, “We’re thrilled to be working with SLINGSHOT to help Singapore’s burgeoning startup ecosystem. Startups play a critical role in assisting governments and organizations in providing high-quality citizen services and improved consumer experiences while also innovating at scale. AWS is excited to help Enterprise Singapore achieve its goal of fostering local startup innovation. We’re devoted to bringing entrepreneurs and the broader industry together to test new cloud-based concepts that might help address some of the world’s most pressing problems.”
