Discovering the Food Haven of Guijie: A Stroll down Beijing’s Dining Street
Dongzhimen and Guijie offer a unique blend of traditional and modern elements, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exploring Beijing’s rich history and vibrant cultural scene. Dongzhimen, previously known as the “East Straight Gate,” (东直门) was once a part of the ancient city fortifications in Beijing. Today, it has transformed into a bustling commercial hub and a significant transportation hub within the city.
Located to the west of Dongzhimen is the renowned street, Guijie (簋街), also referred to as the “Food Vessel Street”. Spanning over a kilometer, this street is lined with numerous commercial shops, out of which over 150 are dining establishments. This street is renowned for its diverse dining options and attracts both locals and tourists alike. The photographs by Matteo Damiani capture the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic street in Beijing.
