The exhibition Keith Haring: Stories from the Street pairs art cars with photographs by Tseng Kwong Chi
Muna Tseng and culture critic Carlo McCormick will be in conversation on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 4 to 6pm EDT at Free Parking, 16 Morton Street, New York, the event presented by Cart Department with Muna Tseng Dance Projects and the Estate of Tseng Kwong Chi.
The conversation centers on the downtown New York scene of the 1980s, a period in which art, social life, and creative practice were densely interwoven. Tseng (read our interview with Muna Tseng) will discuss the photographs her late brother Tseng Kwong Chi produced across a decade-long working relationship with Keith Haring, and will present drawings Haring made for her dance piece Epochal Songs in 1982, later reimagined in 2022 as a performance in a museum setting.
The event is part of the exhibition Keith Haring: Stories from the Street, which includes two of Haring’s art cars alongside photographs by Tseng Kwong Chi. The exhibition runs April 10 to 19, open daily from 12 to 6pm. A warm-up party with DJ G-Bo The Pro, a longtime friend of Haring’s, begins at 2pm before the conversation.
The event coincides with the publication of Keith Haring in 3D (Phaidon/Monacelli), a book connected to the upcoming Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art exhibition scheduled for June 2026.
Muna Tseng is a Hong Kong-born choreographer and performer based in New York. She founded Muna Tseng Dance Projects and has created work that has been performed internationally. She has been a sustained presence in the preservation and contextualization of her brother’s archive; Tseng Kwong Chi (1950–1990) was a photographer whose work documented the New York art world of the 1970s and 1980s, including an extended photographic collaboration with Haring that produced some of the most-reproduced images of that era. Carlo McCormick is a New York-based writer and curator who has written extensively on art, subculture, and the downtown scene of the same period.
