Our Sister Hedy (1957)

On the Hunting Ground (1985)

On the Hunting Ground made by Tian Zhuangzhuang at the invitation of the Inner Mongolia Film Studio. After living for a month with the Mongolians on the grasslands in preparation for the film, he drastically changed the script given to him by the studio. The original story centered around the themes of male dominance and jealousy with a complicated plot; in Tian's film, the narrative element practically disappears. Insofar as a narrative centre exists, it deals with a hunter's transgression of the Mongolian hunting code (laid down by Genghis Khan in the thirteenth century) and his subsequent penance. A semi-documentary--using local herdsmen rather than professional actors--which captures the hunting rituals, rhythms and patterns of daily life in a Mongolian tribe.

Out of the Dark (1995)

It starts when a couple kill the man's mother, then die themselves trying to kill the exorcist who uncovers their crime. They vow vengeance, leading to a duel to end all duels between the living and the dead. There are thrills and laughs galore in this Chow winner, who is now taking his rightful place as an international comic genius.

Only Fools Fall in Love (1995)

Poor girl meets rich boy as they quarrel over a food seller's once a year delicacy. His brother pays her to marry the brother so he can stage an assassination attempt. The attempt doesn't succeed but the man is reduced to the level of an idiot child and the girl looks after him because of her guilt. She nurses him back to health so that he can resume his place as head of the family.

Once Upon a Time in China and America (1997)

So goes to the U.S. to open a martial arts school. Around this time, many Chinese people were sold off to U.S. railroad companies, and were brutally treated by the Americans under the harsh working conditions. Thus, the American workers' hatred towards the Chinese immigrants is high. As a result, So gets into trouble with the Americans and the mob, and calls Master Wong for help.

Once Upon a Time in Shanghai (1998)

The protagonists are mainly Huirong, Zhaobai, and Jikan, who have studied business management in the USA and have returned to their hometown, Shanghai. Sato agreed to the uneasy deal and made preparations to pay Jimmy his exorbitant demands only for Sato's girlfriend Jenny (Faye Wong) to betray him and make off with the money to Okinawa.
