Fascinating aerial views of the Yuncheng salt lakes

Yuncheng (运城) salt lake is the largest lake in the region and has a long salt production history.

The lake is located in Yunchencheng city, in Shanxi province. The images were taken on May 30, 2017, and shows the colorful salt lakes in Yuncheng city, north China’s Shanxi Province. (Xinhua/Shang Jianzhou). The water turns red during certain seasons.

Why salt lakes have pink water?

The pink water is a natural phenomenon. The water tends to have a striking pink color due to the presence of halophile green micro-algae that produces carotenoids, such as Dunaliella Salina.
