Shiyang Ancient Town

Located in the northwest of Dayao County Town, Chuxiong Prefecture, being 35 kilometers apart from the county town.

The ancient town has produced the edible salt for more than 2000 years. In the Han Dynasty, people here have produced salt and pay taxes. And it was called Baiyanjing, which became the main edible salt production region with Heijing Ancient Town in Yunnan at that time. It is also one of 3 provincial historic and cultural towns first named in Yunnan Province. A famous Confucian Temple was built in the town, in which there is the Confucius bronze statue whose weight, size, fine casting technology, and perfect protection are unrivaled.

Shiyang Ancient Town has become the holy place where students in and around Chuxiong Prefecture show their respect to Confucius and offer sacrifices to him. A grand memorial ceremony for Confucius holds at the end of September every year.

Shiyang Ancient Town is connected with the county town by an asphalt road. The road surface is neat and the traffic condition is good. There are accommodation reception facilities in the ancient town. People can also taste numerous Shiyang snacks.
